A play center with a 600-square-foot sandbox opened near the Galleria
Diggin' Depot Play Center is open on Old Montgomery Highway a few minutes from Riverchase, with a 600-square-foot indoor sandbox, desks for parents and Baba Java Coffee on site.
One addition to the list we keep of what is new within a short drive of Riverchase.
Diggin’ Depot Play Center, also referred to as Diggin’ Depot Play Cafe, is open at 2057 Old Montgomery Highway, near the Galleria. The centerpiece is a roughly 600-square-foot indoor sandbox filled with 40 tons of sand from the Bahamas. There are workspace desks and chairs for parents, and Baba Java Coffee is served on site (Bham Now).
Listed hours are Monday through Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday noon to 3 p.m. (Bham Now).
We could not confirm an opening date. The coverage we found says only that the space is open, so we are not going to put a date on it.
Two things make this worth a mention rather than a shrug. The first is location: from most of Riverchase this is a five-minute drive, closer than anything comparable. The second is the parent desks, which is a small detail that tells you who the place is actually built for. Indoor play with coffee and a working surface is a specific kind of useful in August, and again in January.
