Nightly I-459 ramp closures at the Galleria, through mid-October
ALDOT is resurfacing 3.2 miles of I-459 through Hoover, from Exit 10 to Exit 13. Ramps close one at a time overnight, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., with more rounds scheduled Sept. 27 to Oct. 1, Oct. 4 to 7 and Oct. 8 to 14.
If you come home to Riverchase off I-459 in the evening, the next few weeks may involve a detour. The Alabama Department of Transportation is resurfacing I-459 through Hoover and closing entrance and exit ramps overnight while it does (ALDOT, September 18, 2026).
What is confirmed
The project covers 3.2 miles, from south of SR-150 (Exit 10) to north of US-31 (Exit 13). That is the stretch that includes the Galleria interchange. Closed ramps stay closed from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. each night, for milling work (ALDOT, September 18, 2026).
The first round, on I-459 southbound, was scheduled for last week (ALDOT, September 18, 2026):
- September 20–21: US-31 on ramp to I-459 southbound
- September 22: Galleria Flyover off ramp (Exit 13 A)
- September 23: US-31 off ramp (Exit 13 B)
- September 24: SR-150 off ramp (Exit 10)
ALDOT recommends using SR-150 between US-31 and Exit 10 as the alternate route while ramps are closed (ALDOT, September 18, 2026).
A note on the exit letters: some local coverage labels the Galleria Flyover as 13B and the US-31 ramp as 13A (ABC 33/40; Bham Now, September 21, 2026). We have used ALDOT’s own labels. The ramp names are the more reliable guide.
What is scheduled but not yet detailed
ALDOT has scheduled further rounds of nightly closures for September 27 to October 1, October 4 to 7 and October 8 to 14. It says it will announce the specific ramps before each round begins, and that the overall schedule depends on weather and may change (ALDOT, September 18, 2026).
We could not confirm which ramps close in the round that started last night. A local television report on that round was published, but we were not able to read it, so we are not listing ramps we have not seen in a source. ALDOT’s news page is the place to check each week.
The contractor is expected to finish the full resurfacing project by spring 2027, if not sooner (ALDOT, September 18, 2026).
